Subaru Impreza 5DR - Buyers Guide
The 2.0R Impreza 5DR Sport is both stylish and practical and is backed up by a level of versatility that is hard to beat. Value-packed and stylish, the 1.5R is fitted with the re-designed SUBARU BOXER 1.5-litre DOHC engine, which is again includes the full-time Symmetrical AWD system. Offering smooth acceleration right through the high-rev range, it is also fuel-efficient. Subaru developed the unique Symmetrical AWD system which downloads the information from every location on the FIA World Rally Championship and applies the findings to the road cars. To maximise the overall drivability provided by the Symmetrical AWD, the Impreza’s body has been kept light utilizing a structure that eliminates the need for extra weight. This makes for a sleek body construction that is both lightweight and strong.
Our opinion on Subaru Impreza 5DR
There are two petrol engines within the 5 door Subaru Impreza range, a 1.5-litre with 106bhp and a 2.0-litre with 148bhp. The 1.5 isn’t very fast, and it needs to be worked hard for best effect. The 2.0-litre however is far better, but still need to have high revs to achieve this.
All the Imprezas come with four-wheel drive called an AWD system, so the traction is never in short supply, but lacks the nimbleness of other cars in the same class. The suspension is very good at removing the hardness out of the bumps, although the body does tend to float over crests in the road.
The Subaru Impreza 5DR’s interior simply doesn’t cut to the chase on quality – they’re cheap, unappealing and easily marked, which to be honest, isn’t too good in a family orientated car. Everything does feel solidly assembled, and all the switches work with a neat precision. The reliability record of Subaru is, however, quite good.
